Andrew DiSimone is the owner of HairPlaceNYC hair salon in Manhattan, and creator of a his own line of wigs. Well known for his work with cancer patients, Andrew’s main focus is to help those with medical hair loss look and feel like themselves again.
Andrew started his career cutting hair at Vidal Sassoon, and assisted Louis Licari – the “King of Color” – where he perfected his eye for color. He also styled hair at Manhattan’s Fashion Week and London Academy, and worked extensively with fashion stylist guru Sam McKnight for Italian Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. After leaving the “mainstream salon scene,” Andrew started his own salon, DiSimone Studio for Hair, in the West Village. Looking to the future, he opened his first commercial space on 60th and Park Ave, where he met Catherine Murphy. Together they created FaceStation, which quickly became known for great hair, talented stylists and makeup classes, and has been featured in Ambush, Faking It and Inside Edition.
In 2013, Andrew rebranded the salon to it’s current name HairPlaceNYC, a down-to-earth salon with a mix of soothing warm tones, friendly and talented stylists, and wonderful clients. His salon is also the home of ADWigs, Andrew’s exclusive brand of wigs. Furthering his vision for great hair, in 2017 Andrew created GetItBack, a revolutionary hair replacement solution for men. In 2019, Andrew expanded his salon to include more private rooms, chairs and extended hours. Looking to the future, Andrew plans to open other salons in the New York area.
Outside the salon, Andrew volunteers cutting and styling wigs at the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Good” Program at the NYC Hope Lodge, and sponsors FreeWigsForKids.org, a non-profit organization that offers free wigs to children and young adults in need. Andrew also enjoys driving his motorcycle and fishing.
